Beginning
One moment you were elsewhere, surely speaking to your friends, fighting in a battle of your life, dying, or even in a state of non-existence in its entirety. It doesn't matter now, since when you open your eyes it’s become clear that not only is everything around you foreign and unfamiliar, so is everyone. And there seems to be a fair lot of you, at that.
It's easy to discern a few things upon a cursory glance, once you pick yourself up from the field of grass you're resting on. The place you've awoken in seems to be fairly tranquil, for the first few moments at least, and the view of a newly budded sakura tree is among the first that will greet you. In the distance, is a towering castle that manages to look all at once both imposing and welcoming at the same time. There's also an odd pendant around your neck, which you'll find won't come off despite your best attempts. In your pocket you'll find a room key, engraved with a number.
The weather is currently cool, with the sun brightly shining in the sky, though there are a few too many clouds to make it a completely clear day. While most of them appear rather normal, every so often you might spot one that looks just a bit off— like a storm cloud that's completely lost it's way. Lucky for you, it doesn't seem like you're going to have to worry about any inclement weather anytime soon, as they'll vanish from your vision as quickly as they came.
A large stone wall surrounds the entirety of the castle, though it's anyone guess why that is— maybe it's for your safety, maybe it's to keep you trapped, or maybe it's for another reason entirely. The only breach in the wall is a single gate that looks like it certainly led to the outside at one point, but that too has been cordoned off by solid stone.
Fortunately, there's nothing to stop you from entering the castle itself, where you'll find it's pretty grand all things considered. The lighting inside is provided not by electricity, but by magical flame that adjusts to the time of day or night. Actually, if you're looking for anything electronic anywhere, or even a simple power outlet, you'll be sorely out of luck.
For now, it might be best to explore and make some sense of where you are and why you're here— maybe one of your fellow travelers might know something? There are some plaques in the Great Hall that might catch your interest given their focus, in addition to one ridiculously large golden one that seems to bear rules.
Welcome, fellow warriors, to your very long stay.

sakura tree
but once he settled there, she sure noticed him. what the hell was that face, it's too funny.
out of nowhere, one of the small flowers falls on his face. if he looks closely he might see the girl sitting on one of the branches that was responsible for the sudden "attack".]
no subject
it takes him a beat, but then he sneezes messily. ]
What the heck - [ muttered and muffled behind a hand before he glances up and sees her. an enemy! immediately, he leaps away from the tree, hands pressed to his chest. ]
You... did you see?
no subject
Yep.
[the grin on Edna's face is merciless.]
Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you ran from a little girl.
[...she'd absolutely tell, given the opportunity.]
no subject
If that's your definition of running, what do you call actual running?
[ cuz that was more, like, leap frog.
but this is good. it means she didn't see... his secret weapon. his face eases into a satisfied expression. ]
That's not what I was asking about.
no subject
[s h r u g]
Then what were you talking about? Your human germs? Sorry, my eyesight's not that good.
[the way she says it indicates it's still pretty darn good though.]
no subject
Are you calling me dirty? At least wait for me to take off my clothes first.
[ but that slip... ] What, are witches above calling themselves human now?
[ he's assuming, but what else could she mean? ]
i'm dying b y e
[............
miyamura you are lucky she doesn't have her umbrella, because the look on her face...
s c a r y.]
Who calls a cute girl something rude like that the first time he meets them? I'll only say this once-- I'm an Earth Seraph. But you can call me Lady Edna.
[WELL THEY'RE OFF TO A GREAT START.]
that's whatchu get for being a bully, edna!!
[ he's an honorable pervert, ok. ]
Oh, was that an insult? [ he says after already blatantly insulting her. whoops. ] Where I'm from, witches are pretty cool, you know? So what's the difference between a witch and an "earth seraph," then?
wipes away a tear... it's about time she met someone closer to her level
I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you-- run that by me again?
[okay so she doesn't have her umbrella-- but she can break him in two just fine without it.]
the start of a beautiful friendship uwu
[ it's just a pain (in the neck, ha) kissing girls who are shorter than that. dnw. ]
"can you feel the love tonight" intensifies
[steps right on his toes with her clunky brother boots.]
It must be difficult, being so shallow. But what was I expecting from a human.
[listen. fine, she'll educate him. since he asked... still stepping on his toes tho. hard.]
For the record, Seraphim are a spiritual race, tied very closely to the elements. Most humans can no longer see us, so I guess you're not entirely ignorant. Each Seraph has a blessed domain-- or I suppose in some cases, a cursed one.
no subject
Hey, now, don't sweat the small stuff. [ pain won't stop him from being a little shit. ] I never said you weren't cute.
[ but what she's describing sounds a lot like a glorified witch power. for now, he'll play along. ]
So what you're saying is [ leaning down to look her in the eye, smiling -
the edges twitching with a hint of pain. ] Seraphims are not witches - and they're not human either. And you're what, invisible usually? But I can see your adorable [ said dryly, with no endearment whatsoever. ] self just fine. What does that mean?
no subject
[Edna takes her food off him and sighs, a deep frown on her face. Don't sweat it. Right. She'll get right on that. She doesn't know why she's not used to it by now. Maybe the fact that there's no purpose to this stupid childish form anymore is what makes it especially annoying. Either way, she can't do anything about it now.]
...You wouldn't understand.
[And she's not going to explain either. Moving right along, she adds a bit more seriously--] That means you should probably be worried. I've only ever met one human that could see me just fine without help and he's a special kind of weirdo. Seraphim aren't malevolent creatures, but anyone or anything that could capture them probably is.
[Plus her domain was all but useless so--]
There's probably not anything I can do the way I am now to help you either.
no subject
[ now that her foot's off him, his smile is all easy charm and zero pain, woooo. ]
Anyway, we already have one advantage. I'm not alone and you aren't either. [ his smile grows into a grin. ] Thanks for worrying about me, though. I guess you are cute, after all, Lady Edna.
no subject
Who said I was worrying about you? I just thought you should be worrying more about yourself.
[definitely not the same thing at all! and she's absolutely not forgiving him so easily after all those rude word choices earlier. still, she guesses she could give him an opportunity to earn his own redemption.]
So. Do you have a name, Sneeze-y?
no subject
[ yeah, he doesn't buy that at all. ]
Miyamura Toranosuke. [ he eyes her blonde hair. should've probably introduced himself the western way. ] Or I guess... Toranosuke Miyamura. Just Miyamura is fine. Or, heh, Sneeze-y.
[ what is shame. ]
no subject
Make up your mind already.
[sorry, you're talking to a girl from a game where everyone gets just one name. For a moment she's silent and then--]
Fine-- Iyamu it is then.
[THAT IS EXACTLY NONE OF THE THINGS HE SAID but there it is.]
no subject
[ that sounds too cute for a dirtbag like him, tbh. ]
Let me guess. It means "tall, handsome devil" in Seraphimese.
[ except he knows it doesn't. ]
no subject
[It doesn't sound like a compliment...]
If I had to give it a meaning then "judgmental idiot" seems about right.
no subject
"Judgmental" is a little off, I'd say.
[ he just calls 'em like he sees 'em. does it really count as an insult if it's the truth? he gives her an easy grin and waves it off. ]
I'm more like an art connoisseur.
no subject
[Which explains even less why she is the way she is. ]
