Beginning

One moment you were elsewhere, surely speaking to your friends, fighting in a battle of your life, dying, or even in a state of non-existence in its entirety. It doesn't matter now, since when you open your eyes it’s become clear that not only is everything around you foreign and unfamiliar, so is everyone. And there seems to be a fair lot of you, at that.

It's easy to discern a few things upon a cursory glance, once you pick yourself up from the field of grass you're resting on. The place you've awoken in seems to be fairly tranquil, for the first few moments at least, and the view of a newly budded sakura tree is among the first that will greet you. In the distance, is a towering castle that manages to look all at once both imposing and welcoming at the same time. There's also an odd pendant around your neck, which you'll find won't come off despite your best attempts. In your pocket you'll find a room key, engraved with a number.

The weather is currently cool, with the sun brightly shining in the sky, though there are a few too many clouds to make it a completely clear day. While most of them appear rather normal, every so often you might spot one that looks just a bit off— like a storm cloud that's completely lost it's way. Lucky for you, it doesn't seem like you're going to have to worry about any inclement weather anytime soon, as they'll vanish from your vision as quickly as they came.

A large stone wall surrounds the entirety of the castle, though it's anyone guess why that is— maybe it's for your safety, maybe it's to keep you trapped, or maybe it's for another reason entirely. The only breach in the wall is a single gate that looks like it certainly led to the outside at one point, but that too has been cordoned off by solid stone.

Fortunately, there's nothing to stop you from entering the castle itself, where you'll find it's pretty grand all things considered. The lighting inside is provided not by electricity, but by magical flame that adjusts to the time of day or night. Actually, if you're looking for anything electronic anywhere, or even a simple power outlet, you'll be sorely out of luck.

For now, it might be best to explore and make some sense of where you are and why you're here— maybe one of your fellow travelers might know something? There are some plaques in the Great Hall that might catch your interest given their focus, in addition to one ridiculously large golden one that seems to bear rules.

Welcome, fellow warriors, to your very long stay.

Then I would suggest, as noble a thought as that is, not to interfere unless you're very certain you won't be caught in the middle.

...oh, of course I would be careful, should I interfere with something... as it's happening. But I don't know that I could stand idly by if I was aware of it, either.

[Particularly if the would-be victim was a kid or something.]

[ That finally gets a stare, but he does respond. ]

Do you really think I would tell you if I was?
irrationalities: (♚ because it doesn't make sense.)

I didn't say you were lying, either.

[He shakes his head in response to Elliot's offer.]

The magicians I know are completely different from you. Just forget I asked.
irrationalities: (♚ so who's asking?)

[personal profile] irrationalities 2017-08-01 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Analyzing the situation", huh? Well whatever, size me up as much as you want. So, got anymore questions you're dying to hear my opinion on?

Just so long as you're careful. There's no sense in dying needlessly.

[Even if it is a child, in Rosalind's opinion. Heroics are all well and good, but not at the expense of one's own life.

But! There's bathhouses to explore, and Rosalind makes a soft hm as she opens the door.]
pseudoregelia: (And you show off your light)

[personal profile] pseudoregelia 2017-08-01 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you aren't even going to try to lie and say you won't?

[She doesn't seem bothered about this.]
deontological: (27)

[personal profile] deontological 2017-08-01 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
...that would be a rather foolish way to die, wouldn't it...

[And she has no intention of dying, so. There's that.

Buuut you know what's nicer than dying? Bathing. Sen's expression lightens up a bit as they step inside, and she surveys their immediate surroundings with some degree of approval.]

Ah... how quaint. [She can tell, just from the changing area, that the baths themselves are sure to be nice - it looks like most of the things here are good quality.] We'll have a place to relax, at the very least.
irrationalities: (♚ am i seriously listening to this?)

[Okay he's slightly taken aback by this because uhhhh really??]

...You sound like you're obsessed with him or something.

[Or his cooking. Same difference.]

Circling someone is—!!

[ It. It wouldn't be.

If this were someone else who was actually competent at fighting or even physical tasks in general??? Sure, Kurosaki has some muscle and maybe some athletic ability, but he's no fighter. Hell, he's pretty new to being a rebel in general so he.

Does not avoid it. At all. What he does instead is flail kind of a lot before latching onto the closest thing around: Mahiro. You can either steady him or fall with him, your move buddy. ]
maddogs: (oh just the thought of you)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-01 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Okay, that's pretty cool.

[ he thinks about it for a moment ]

So what're ya gonna do here? Who is gonna pray to ya and shit?

[ he stares at her hand for a moment before remembering thats a fun thing westerns do and shakes her hand i guess ]

No time like the present, Lutece-san.

[ girls mostly get called by their first names but she seems like a Lady ]
irrationalities: (♚ i don't really care.)

Like what, gagging them?
maddogs: (nothing on me)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-01 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Who the fuck says ya can't be a productive member of society an' a yakuza?
miirai: ✽ visual novel ( sprite ) (pic#11580985)

[personal profile] miirai 2017-08-01 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Most people are normally scared of the yakuza, so they think they're really scary. It's okay, though. I know there are really nice yakuza out there.
originallutece: if the loser isn't around to know they've lost? (talk; what's the good of winning)

[Oh, it's the honorific again. Different from the one Nishitani had given her. She might not ask otherwise, but it gives her an excuse not to, you know, tell a story.]

Mm, some other time, perhaps. Tell me instead: what's the difference between -san and -chan?
maddogs: (just to get up next to you)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-01 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ majima laughs. it's true though, they are scary and he prefers it that way. but that doesn't mean they aren't nice sometimes. ]

Ya got a good head on your shoulders, kid.
maddogs: (gets me so high (so high))

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-01 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ wow he sure is explaining honorifics to a lot of people today that's not something he thought he'd ever have to do but he ain't bothered ]

Ah, well, "-chan" is for someone cute or someone ya think you're close with. And "-san" is just kinda generally respectful, I guess. Like ya'd never just say someone's name to them, unless you're super close, otherwise you'd be pretty rude.

[ he considers this for a minute ]

Was it Nishitani who called ya that? Feel free ta punch him.
buddyoldpal: (20)

[personal profile] buddyoldpal 2017-08-01 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ ohh, flattery. He's so weak to flattery, Sen. ]

Comes in handy in the yakuza, what can I say?

[ Sure, they have honor and all that, but they still stab each other in the back every other week. ]
buddyoldpal: (44)

[personal profile] buddyoldpal 2017-08-01 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Fingers crossed, eh? Brains are a pretty good weapon ta have, long as nobody else's got a gun!

[ What a poor joke, you got killed by a gun, Nishitani. ]
originallutece: you might just cut yourself on it (anger; an "excuse me" so sharp)

[personal profile] originallutece 2017-08-01 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
[. . . that son of a bitch--]

I might just.

[No, she won't, but she's pretty pissed, which for Rosalind means her glare goes about ten degrees colder as her mouth purses.]

You know him, then?
maddogs: (theres nothing i wouldnt do)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-01 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ the punch hits him hard, nishitani was behind him and in his blind spot and so he really doesn't see it coming and his instant reaction is to turn to hit him as hard as he can. he's been fighting for twenty-five years having to deal with his blindside he's learned how to react and not take people's shit for trying to get him like that. ]

That's a cheap fuckin' shot, Nishitani.
maddogs: (down to the floor)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-01 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ majima laughs and nods. he was right after all. he's fond of nishitani for all he also knows his shitty behavior around women. ]

Yeah, he an' I go way back. He's got some problems with boundries but he's a good guy underneath it, promise.

Only if you believe the most obvious answer is the correct one. Or can you say my explanation is impossible? Whoever is to say that the plaques aren't biased for or against certain individuals, one way or another?

[ vanitas' upraised hands turn into a shrug. ] I'm simply thinking that it's impossible not to be misunderstood under these circumstances.
