Beginning

One moment you were elsewhere, surely speaking to your friends, fighting in a battle of your life, dying, or even in a state of non-existence in its entirety. It doesn't matter now, since when you open your eyes it’s become clear that not only is everything around you foreign and unfamiliar, so is everyone. And there seems to be a fair lot of you, at that.

It's easy to discern a few things upon a cursory glance, once you pick yourself up from the field of grass you're resting on. The place you've awoken in seems to be fairly tranquil, for the first few moments at least, and the view of a newly budded sakura tree is among the first that will greet you. In the distance, is a towering castle that manages to look all at once both imposing and welcoming at the same time. There's also an odd pendant around your neck, which you'll find won't come off despite your best attempts. In your pocket you'll find a room key, engraved with a number.

The weather is currently cool, with the sun brightly shining in the sky, though there are a few too many clouds to make it a completely clear day. While most of them appear rather normal, every so often you might spot one that looks just a bit off— like a storm cloud that's completely lost it's way. Lucky for you, it doesn't seem like you're going to have to worry about any inclement weather anytime soon, as they'll vanish from your vision as quickly as they came.

A large stone wall surrounds the entirety of the castle, though it's anyone guess why that is— maybe it's for your safety, maybe it's to keep you trapped, or maybe it's for another reason entirely. The only breach in the wall is a single gate that looks like it certainly led to the outside at one point, but that too has been cordoned off by solid stone.

Fortunately, there's nothing to stop you from entering the castle itself, where you'll find it's pretty grand all things considered. The lighting inside is provided not by electricity, but by magical flame that adjusts to the time of day or night. Actually, if you're looking for anything electronic anywhere, or even a simple power outlet, you'll be sorely out of luck.

For now, it might be best to explore and make some sense of where you are and why you're here— maybe one of your fellow travelers might know something? There are some plaques in the Great Hall that might catch your interest given their focus, in addition to one ridiculously large golden one that seems to bear rules.

Welcome, fellow warriors, to your very long stay.

I could turn into a dragon.

[Riiiiiight.

But he's serious. Totally serious.]

I'd lose my sense of self and start going on a rampage, not really caring who I maim or kill.

[Okay, cool, that's awesome. So basically, this pirate man needs a coin so he won't get corrupted with malevolence and turn into a dragon. Sounds legit.]

A dragon.

[The sad thing is only some parts of this story actually sound as crazy as they should to Ayumu.]

You need a coin to keep you from turning into a dragon.

[Is it part of his hoard? Does he get really angry without it?]

You realize this sounds like a fairy tale, right?

Fairytale or not, the lives of myself and others here are in danger. Unless you want to test the Reaper's Curse.

[Maybe Mahiro was right. Maybe he really is just an overgrown Chuuni.]

[Maybe he is, he's certainly dressed like one....]

..... Tell you what, if I see it, I'll return it to you.

[He'd believe a curse.... but turning into a dragon?

No, not a chance.]

So you're cursed to turn into a dragon?

Unfortunately, that's just how things are. I've taken in too much malevolence and it's fated to happen. It could be tomorrow, it could be hundreds of years from now.

[He sounds nonchalant when talking about this. Then again, he's under the assumption that dragons are bad and not cool and awesome. Which means his attitude for those who are not familiar with his situation can be... confusing.

Since it seems like he cares yet he's just accepted his fate and moved on at the same time.]

.....Hundreds of years?

[Alright..... you've reached a brand new level of professional chuuni. Actually, he was almost convincing with how he spoke, even for a jaded skeptic like Ayumu.]

Yeah, hundreds. I've already lived for around a thousand, though I definitely don't expect to live a thousand more.

[He sighs.]

To a human, I'm sure that sounds like a long time, but when you get as old as I am, time blends together and people you've met, relationships you've made, they disappear in the blink of an eye.

[He smiles, looking a little nostalgic, but he's not sad. It's... just a truth.]

[That expression..... Ayumu wasn't all that great at interacting with others, but reading them? That he could do, and do well. And what Eizen's face said right now....

Hm. Maybe there was a thread of truth to it. Maybe.]

.....I suppose that makes living in the moment all the more important, in some ways.

Living in the moment is one of the best pieces of advice I could ever give. It's very important.

[He smiles because there were moments where he was happy and while he cherishes those moments, he also refuses to just live in the past. It's not his way.]
godinsolitude: (The wonderful part of the mess)

[personal profile] godinsolitude 2017-07-31 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
['Living in the moment', hm.....?

Advice he'd do well to take to heart, at this point. A small smile comes to Ayumu's face, but a keen eye might be able to tell it's bittersweet.]

...Yeah, it is. It's something people should do more of.

[he should do more of, really.]

I think people would be happier if they did that. Planning for the future is a good thing and so is remembering the past. But we live in the present.
godinsolitude: (All of your flaws)

[personal profile] godinsolitude 2017-07-31 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe so.... It's a good way to live, for sure.

[Ayumu already had plenty of regrets, many stemming from holding onto the things that held him back from enjoying the present for so long.]

Do you live for the present?

[He gets the feeling the kid doesn't, but he doesn't want to jump the gun, either.]
godinsolitude: (to bed)

[personal profile] godinsolitude 2017-08-01 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
No, I can't say I have in the past..... but I'm trying to learn, at least.

[Better late than never, right?]

As long as you're learning and trying, that's all that really matters, then.
