Beginning
One moment you were elsewhere, surely speaking to your friends, fighting in a battle of your life, dying, or even in a state of non-existence in its entirety. It doesn't matter now, since when you open your eyes it’s become clear that not only is everything around you foreign and unfamiliar, so is everyone. And there seems to be a fair lot of you, at that.
It's easy to discern a few things upon a cursory glance, once you pick yourself up from the field of grass you're resting on. The place you've awoken in seems to be fairly tranquil, for the first few moments at least, and the view of a newly budded sakura tree is among the first that will greet you. In the distance, is a towering castle that manages to look all at once both imposing and welcoming at the same time. There's also an odd pendant around your neck, which you'll find won't come off despite your best attempts. In your pocket you'll find a room key, engraved with a number.
The weather is currently cool, with the sun brightly shining in the sky, though there are a few too many clouds to make it a completely clear day. While most of them appear rather normal, every so often you might spot one that looks just a bit off— like a storm cloud that's completely lost it's way. Lucky for you, it doesn't seem like you're going to have to worry about any inclement weather anytime soon, as they'll vanish from your vision as quickly as they came.
A large stone wall surrounds the entirety of the castle, though it's anyone guess why that is— maybe it's for your safety, maybe it's to keep you trapped, or maybe it's for another reason entirely. The only breach in the wall is a single gate that looks like it certainly led to the outside at one point, but that too has been cordoned off by solid stone.
Fortunately, there's nothing to stop you from entering the castle itself, where you'll find it's pretty grand all things considered. The lighting inside is provided not by electricity, but by magical flame that adjusts to the time of day or night. Actually, if you're looking for anything electronic anywhere, or even a simple power outlet, you'll be sorely out of luck.
For now, it might be best to explore and make some sense of where you are and why you're here— maybe one of your fellow travelers might know something? There are some plaques in the Great Hall that might catch your interest given their focus, in addition to one ridiculously large golden one that seems to bear rules.
Welcome, fellow warriors, to your very long stay.

[Pretty much, yeah. Judging by the lack of explanation about the Tragedy, he think that's widespread information]

[She raises an eyebrow. A couple of the plaques, being as odd as they are, have clued her in somewhat that not everyone is from the same world, so to speak, but then again it doesn't hurt to clarify this a little further.]
I'm afraid I'm not sure which tragedy you're referring to.
no subject
[Okay, he didn't expect that. He stares at her for a moment, unsure of what to say. Where do you live that the Tragedy isn't happening right now?]
...the despair-filled one? The Most something-or-other of Human History that started it? It's kind of a big deal, what with civilization crumbling and everything being in disarray around the world.

The only thing that could have been described as that happened well over fifty years ago for me. What year was it for you before you arrived here?

[Something's starting to nag at his mind. If he was dead and was resurrected in this place somehow, it's not too much of a stretch to think this place here would be the same year he came from]

[A beat.]
I asked because I was wondering if it's plausible for us to have come from the same world, but at two different points in time.
[She shakes her head.]
Not that it'd make much of a difference to our present situation. I am sorry to hear about the Tragedy, however.

[2002, huh...]
I did just think we could be from different points in time! But by now I wonder just how strange the truth will be. You know what they say, truth's stranger than fiction -- or was it reality? You know what I mean.
no subject
I follow you, yes.
[A beat.]
But I suppose these are all idle curiosities for the time being. Working out who the sage is and finding them... that might lead to more concrete answers.

It shouldn't be long before this Sage person contacts us, they'll talk about the rules and about what they expect from us. I'll be surprised if they show their face, though. The people that tend to imprison people and tell them to kill each other never show their faces. Helps make people paranoid, thinking there's even a chance the mastermind is among them.
[He certainly talks as if he has experience about this kind of games, at least]

I wonder how they plan on addressing us, if at all then. You're right that they probably won't do it face to face, but the Sage is going to have to prove they're the Sage in order to leave a significant impact. A show of power, so to speak.
no subject
['A show of power' could be anything. It can get real bad]
no subject
It depends on the reaction of our group as a whole. If everyone chooses to take them at face value, they won't need to say anything more than "I'm the Sage." On the other hand, if the majority of us demand proof... then that might force their hand a little.
[A sigh.]
Some of us might be satisfied with a little parlour trick, others might want more. Either way, it could get interesting. Or dangerous.
no subject
[Kizakura would rather there not be any uncalled for trouble, definitely]
no subject
[She's solemn for a moment.]
All things considered though, they're not as extreme as they could have been. If, as the rules suggest, they truly wish for us to kill each other, there are more invasive ways to break our sense of humanity.
[A beat.]
I'm not complaining of course.

May as well enjoy the peaceful times while they last! You know what they say, bonds are important. It won't stop anyone at first, but if it saves a few lives in the future...
[Then it'll be worth it]
no subject
Well, how do you plan on enjoying the peaceful times?

Have you done a lot of wandering around the castle yet? Something tells me there isn't going to be much provided by way of entertainment here.
no subject
[...well, looking for information about the people in charge is the main objective here. Secret passages aren't really what he'll be looking for, but he won't complain if he finds any]
no subject
[She contemplates.]
Presumably if there's anything worth knowing about the our captors, it'd be hidden away in secret places. Not a bad idea you have there, Kizakura-san.
