Week 2

Friday's harrowing events are clear in the minds of manyfirst and foremost, the death of Rika Furude, and of course the reveal and subsequent "sentencing" of Asch the Bloody. It also serves well as a reminder to everyone that the gloves are off, there won't be an easy way out for anyone and it is unlikely that there will be an option to 'wait it out' in the hopes of not participating in this 'game'. Or, as The Sage and The Teishu put it:

The Challenge.

Despite how you felt about the trial, it's likely that some rest would be welcome after all that transpired. Fortunately, some of your fellow warriors have taken it upon themselves to provide a reprieve of sorts, if you'd rather not be alone.

As if the events of the trial are supposed to be nothing but routine, dawns comes once more Sunday morning, punctuated with the sound of the rooster crowing obnoxiously. Any light sleepers hoping for their rest to not be disturbed may find themselves disappointed. Though, if anyone should wish, they may feel free to try to fall back asleep.

But, maybe that time can be better spent wandering. It seems that some places may have mysteriously unveiled themselves. It might do well to check them out. Or not. How anyone chooses to spend their time is ultimately up to them.

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

(OOC: Welcome to Week 2 of Ukimiya! Feel free to comment to the weekly top levels and thread as you like, and redeem coins at the wishing pool.

You can contact the sage with your pendants here, and the teishu here.)

[The plants are certainly something interesting to the man, but instead of peering at the flowers themselves, he is closely examining their leaves - and grins as he recognized a few, going to take a couple of the planters when he realizes someone else grabbed the pot as well]

Ah? So I'm not the only one interested.

[And thank goodness for him not being the only guy looking, though Georik probably is mostly interested in medicinal properties and Jansen is interested in how they could make the girls here smile again. Though he does know a few herbal remedies, but more stuff for healing small wounds.]

Oh, if you wanted to look at that one I can look elsewhere.

[He smiles slightly]

It's fine - I was seeing if it's similar to some plants I know of...

[There were a few he recognized as possibly poisonous, but he would rather keep that to himself, less people who know, the better]

Ah, I was just looking at the appearance. Thought it might be nice to put a few in the Great Hall and brighten the place up a bit. Gonna be harder to not give in to the Sage's tricks if we're all depressed, you know?

Yes, it would do well to have something bright and fresh to look - and to smell, some of these flowers are quite fragrant.

And it would be handy to have a few with medicinal properties be just a short walk from the bedroom as well - the kitchen should have a mortar and pestle.

I'll leave those to you. I only know some basic ones since normally I'd have magic to deal with injuries.

Magic?

[He asks, genuine curiosity in his voice as he rummages at a planter's bench to check if there's a guide or catalog on the care for some of the plants - be a shame if they end up dying due to improper care]

Yeah, many people in my world can make use of magic energy for various things. I know a few healing spells but they don't work here.

Magic... exists in my world, but it's outlawed in my country on the pain of death.

What? That just sounds like a stupid reason to kill people.

[personal profile] devilsphysician 2017-08-11 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's... complicated.

[He frowns slightly but not at Jensen's confusion or opinion on the matter as his 0arms fold across his chest, leaning against the planter's bench]

The overt reason is because in the holy text of our faith, it says: "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live", but the secondary reason is our country is in the amidst of an industrial revolution, and the Monarchy felt that holding onto such 'superstitious backwards thinking' will hold Hardland back from achieving it's full potential as a nation.

Weird that your world thinks of magic as backwards and mine thinks of it as progressive. Maybe that's because we tried to learn how to understand the magic energy enough to harness it as a power source.

I suppose this may have to do with how 'magic' works, in ours - it takes a special talent, or by rumor a deal with demons to perform it, while in theory anyone could run a steam engine or wind up a mechanized soldier.
