fifth trial

FIFTH TRIAL
Saturday, Week 5

UNCOVER THE GUILTY PARTY

Yesterday's events were quite shocking. None of you expected to find two victims, much less two who were so young and full of life. But, as always, there's a silver lining here. Their lives bought you release from the motive, and isn't that worth something? After all, it would be a lie to say that this thought hasn't passed through anyone's mind. But would it be right to thank whoever was involved for what they did? For some of you, the idea isn't all that outlandish.

Any further deliberations regarding whether or not the act was truly just will need to wait until later. For now, you have a trial to attend.

Once thirteen of you gather in the Great Hall, the large doors slam right open and prompt everyone to ascend the stairs into the trial room.

As those present takes their seats, it becomes apparent just how many lives have been lost over the course of this game. Half of the seats are now empty, which is staggering given how many of you there were when the challenge began. Beyond the room and the current occupants are the profiles lining the walls. They're hard to miss at this point, for obvious reasons.

The Sage's steady voice slips in through the pendants as soon as everyone's settled.

"It is time, my warriors, to meet the challenge head on. You have all managed to come this far and so I expect you to perform as admirably as you have in the past. How may vary, but every individual here is important and brings their own unique touch to these trials. ... Normally, that is. To my dismay, a number of you will be temporarily incapable of taking part in this challenge.

Let us hope this is a trend that does not continue into future weeks. That said... May all who remain be blessed with only the best of fortune. You will need it."

As soon as the Sage finishes speaking, five images flicker into sight as if brought to life by a projector. Seeing how there's no such device present, it may not be a stretch to consider magic is at work here.

[good thing ros has her HANDY DANDY NOTEBOOK on her person.

It's the work of a moment to create ten different charts: five for nearsightedness, five for farsightedness. Each paper has a different mixture of letters and words on it, and she offers eight to Mahiro.]

I'll test you, you test the others.

[He's being trusted to test people even though he is currently holding a gun, this is great. With that said, he has no complaints about taking those sheets from her.]

Sure.

[Anyways, his vision's pretty much 20/20?? He's not like his bff Yoshino who needs glasses, basically.]

Okay, let's see...

[Kizakura reads without any problems. A bit of trouble with farsightedness, but that may be because of his age, not because he truly has eye problems]

In both eyes?

[Sorry, it's just . . . there's one contact missing, who knows what kind of vision people have in one eye and not the other.]

If you wouldn't mind doing it once more, please-- one eye at a time, I'll give you two different things to read.

Of course, as many times as you want.

[Covering one eye, reading again, doing it with the other eye later...yeah, it seems the farsightedness is because of age, and he isn't using anything to correct it]
browbeater: Fuck the next person who doesn't google their bullshit. (God save me I am 1000% DONE.)

Gonna insist you test everyone, and not hand it off to Mahiro.

[okay but consider: she doesn't want to?

No, all right, she will, and assuming Mahiro is amiable to giving those back, she'll be testing those who want it from her.]
irrationalities: (♚ most boring thing i've heard.)

[personal profile] irrationalities 2017-09-02 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, he'll give it back, it's... not like he's super insistent on doing it anyways??]
browbeater: Seriously, what's your name? (Hope? Stacy? ... Jane?)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-09-02 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[SORRY, BUT HE'S A SUSPECT. MAKO DOESN'T THINK IT'S SMART TO TRUST SUSPECTS TO CLEAR THEIR FELLOW SUSPECTS.

THERE'S AN INHERENT BAD INCENTIVE THERE.

anyway, his eyesight is better than average.]

[ Hanyuu's eyesight is pretty damn perfect. Perks of being a god, no pesky near-nearsightedness. ]
devilsphysician: (feh... what fools)

[personal profile] devilsphysician 2017-09-02 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's skeptical of handing it to Mahiro, but he does the test when Mako insisted Rosalind gives it, only a slight issue with the smallest line on the farsighted chart - but he has pulled out a pair of glasses to read or examine small objects before.

Georik will even pull his pair out for others to examine: the lens are simply magnified]
