Third Trial

THIRD TRIAL
Saturday, Week 3

UNCOVER THE GUILTY PARTY

No one can resist the tug that urges them forward and into the Great Hall. There's no point in lingering within the safe confines of your bed or loitering in the castle halls. Neither will shield you from these tedious trials nor will they keep you from witnessing the ghastly scenes that follow. Most of you have reluctantly accepted this as your reality. Right now, it probably feels like there's no stopping the course you're on. All you can do is hold on tight and wait for Sunday to come. If you can just get through this trial, surely next week won't end in disappointment and tragedy.

It's only when all twenty-two of you are present that the doors in the Great Hall fly open, allowing everyone to enter into the trial room. The only surprise here it is if anyone's still shocked by the display.

As soon as you enter, it's easy to see that the only difference from last week is there are less of you to fill the seats around the table. Likely because of how spacious the room is, with so many of your number missing it's starting to feel a little lonely. With a quick glance, you can see the profiles still lining the walls. Their presence serves as a grim reminder of those whose lives have been lost, just in case the absence of their voices wasn't enough.

When everyone settles into their respective seats, The Sage's cold voice seeps in through their pendants.

"It is time, my warriors, to meet the challenge head on. Thus far, your quick wit and perseverance have prevented these trials from meeting an unrighteous end. As you come upon your third tribunal, I can only ponder if this trend will continue.

May you be blessed with only the best of fortune. You will need it."

As soon as the Sage finishes speaking, five images flicker into sight as if brought to life by a projector. Seeing how there's no such device present, it may not be a stretch to consider magic is at work here.

Soldier on, Warriors.

Yeah, but there's a difference between movin' someone a little ways an' takin' 'em far, right?
godinsolitude: (Dig them up;)

[personal profile] godinsolitude 2017-08-19 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There is, but there are workarounds for that too. Moving something heavy is all about leverage.
maddogs: (theres nothing i wouldnt do)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-19 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
If we spend all our time sayin' the evidence doesn't fuckin' matter because of loopholes, we're gonna be at this forever.
browbeater: Because I hate them for not asking me if I wanted starbucks. (Who ordered the pumpkin spice latte?)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-08-19 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Natalia is light enough that almost everyone in the group would be able to move her.
maddogs: (i want it bad)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-19 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Move her, sure. Carry her, nah.
browbeater: Or whatever that stupid model face codename is. (Cold steel coming at you.)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-08-19 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She wasn't carried, she was dragged the entire way to the river.

That would be a really awkward position for me, since I'm much taller than her. It'd be way more awkward to drag her than to just carry her.
maddogs: (in the back of the cab)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-19 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Someone fuckin' said they thought she was carried. That's why I started with if we're all agreein' ta that. Ya should've just led with she wasn't fuckin' carried.
browbeater: There are children around. Maybe later. (Grandma you can't go to the nude beach)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-08-19 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
She could have been at some point, the trail gets lighter. But no, most of the way, she was dragged.

[ majima produces a piece of paper from the handy dandy notebook and hands it over ]

I'm gonna be honest, I took a fuckin' nap while ya guys were lookin' for the body. Can ya help me visualize this>? My understandin', from what was said, was she was dragged part way and then carried. Was she carried or not?
browbeater: What about cacao? (Maybe we should have a safeword.)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-08-19 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
While it's a possibility, I don't think so.

It's more likely at this point that she was dragged the whole way.
maddogs: (i tip the driver 'head of time)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-19 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
With the tarp so there were no markings? That's what you're sayin'?
browbeater: I'll be standing by with the bandages and 'I told you so's (You fight that honey badger.)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-08-19 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and the tarp would have provided both extra leverage, as well as eased friction with the ground.

Dragging her through the castle is easier because of the smooth floors. Outside would have been more difficult.
maddogs: (cause i gotta leave yeah)

[personal profile] maddogs 2017-08-19 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ majima nods ]

I understand. 's just wasn't what I was hearin' before. But that's a good place ta start.
originallutece: my first and only love (talk; mmm science)

[personal profile] originallutece 2017-08-19 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about that.

A hundred-odd pounds is quite a bit of weight for someone to move, especially when it's dead weight and when they've little strength built up. I certainly couldn't do it, not without a lot of effort, and even then, I doubt I could do it for more than a few feet.
browbeater: Just test me. (I'll give you the worst pun of your life)

[personal profile] browbeater 2017-08-19 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. But my point is, if I, or Georik, killed Natalia, we're both strong enough to just carry her. Why waste time fighting with leverage to drag her outside?

It's a lot of unnecessary work, and creates an obvious trail.
