Third Trial
THIRD TRIAL
Saturday, Week 3
UNCOVER THE GUILTY PARTY
No one can resist the tug that urges them forward and into the Great Hall. There's no point in lingering within the safe confines of your bed or loitering in the castle halls. Neither will shield you from these tedious trials nor will they keep you from witnessing the ghastly scenes that follow. Most of you have reluctantly accepted this as your reality. Right now, it probably feels like there's no stopping the course you're on. All you can do is hold on tight and wait for Sunday to come. If you can just get through this trial, surely next week won't end in disappointment and tragedy.
It's only when all twenty-two of you are present that the doors in the Great Hall fly open, allowing everyone to enter into the trial room. The only surprise here it is if anyone's still shocked by the display.
As soon as you enter, it's easy to see that the only difference from last week is there are less of you to fill the seats around the table. Likely because of how spacious the room is, with so many of your number missing it's starting to feel a little lonely. With a quick glance, you can see the profiles still lining the walls. Their presence serves as a grim reminder of those whose lives have been lost, just in case the absence of their voices wasn't enough.
When everyone settles into their respective seats, The Sage's cold voice seeps in through their pendants.
"It is time, my warriors, to meet the challenge head on. Thus far, your quick wit and perseverance have prevented these trials from meeting an unrighteous end. As you come upon your third tribunal, I can only ponder if this trend will continue.
May you be blessed with only the best of fortune. You will need it."
As soon as the Sage finishes speaking, five images flicker into sight as if brought to life by a projector. Seeing how there's no such device present, it may not be a stretch to consider magic is at work here.
Soldier on, Warriors.

If someone can identify what that root is-- I'm thinking the lemon was used to disguise its taste.
There was also a table setting with this-- the wine glass had some sort of weird smell, especially compared to the wine.

Natalia was a part of one of the groups that stayed together at night, wasn't she?
[Friendly as she was, she couldn't imagine her not being a part of one, although she honestly hasn't kept track of who stays with who.]
Did anyone hear anything from her last night?

MOTIVES?
My home has the Avatar, and she's stopped the spirit of chaos from ruling over our world for 10,000 years. I have zero doubts she could do it again. [his ex is amazing, he will fight anyone on that.] If you think I'm lying, I can tell you the whole story, and you can try to see if I trip up on any details.
But this is not a compelling motive for me.

Physics, my dudes
That leaves Mako and Georik. Now I know we all love our stupid part of the trial where we do something an' make everyone watch so maybe instead of strippin' or stickin' our hands in blood or whatever, the two men can try ta pick up someone Natalia's size. Then we can get our weekly diversion outta the way and go back ta reasonin' this shit with logic.

cw; implications of natalia helping plan this ofc
Sounds like Natalia planned this shit and was likely an accomplice to her own murder, 'cause she didn't want the corruption ta spread to her world an' probably also 'cause she's been really fuckin' depressed all week an' probably wanted ta be reunited with her beloved, which is a reason I think is worth puttin' a lot of weight on especially considerin' how fucked up everythin's been.
So it's likely it was someone she knew or someone she knew had a good reason ta kill. Mako has said several times that ain't him, but he ain't a girl so he feels like he's doubly set. Lutece-han was with us all night long, so it wasn't her. That leaves Georik, Edna-chan (please don't murder me, Eizen), and Misora-san. They wouldn't haveta know poison if Natalia did it in the first place, so the knowledge question is kinda out of it, but the sword thing is still kinda important here. Dunno if Edna could handle a sword that big.

I didn't do it. I swear. I can't risk dying, I can't... I just can't! If I die here - my sister would die. And you're asking - expecting that I would abuse my knowledge.... my oath to kill someone with my skill.
Maybe I am worried The Sage is right and what works for devils won't work for corruption... But keeping chaos out would NOT save Lillith.
[The thought of what would happen hits him like a ton of bricks, and the trembling became outright shaking as a sob escapes, his voice choking]
I am innocent, please I beg of you, please believe me... please. I don't know why someone wants me dead, I never - I never did anything to anyone here. Please, help me, someone please... please I need return to her, but I would not kill.

Confession
But there are just some things you can't plan for. You can put together all the pieces right and then in a blink someone can introduce something that completely ruins everything.
She thought nothing could shake her resolve.
Edna was wrong.
No way would she allow a brother and sister to suffer like she and Eizen had for her sake.
The threat that could have killed everyone here-- that shadow looming over them should be gone. Anything could happen. But no one was going to die because of her.]
Guess it's over. I lost.
[She... suddenly looks very much her size. Small. Scared. Sad. But she's holding it all in as tightly as she can.]
no subject
[Kizakura doesn't look upset. He's more sympathetic than he's letting on, but for the moment he decides to press on. He hadn't really suspected Edna but still...he was convinced Georik couldn't be the killer]
Mind telling what happened? Please.
