Third Trial
THIRD TRIAL
Saturday, Week 3
UNCOVER THE GUILTY PARTY
No one can resist the tug that urges them forward and into the Great Hall. There's no point in lingering within the safe confines of your bed or loitering in the castle halls. Neither will shield you from these tedious trials nor will they keep you from witnessing the ghastly scenes that follow. Most of you have reluctantly accepted this as your reality. Right now, it probably feels like there's no stopping the course you're on. All you can do is hold on tight and wait for Sunday to come. If you can just get through this trial, surely next week won't end in disappointment and tragedy.
It's only when all twenty-two of you are present that the doors in the Great Hall fly open, allowing everyone to enter into the trial room. The only surprise here it is if anyone's still shocked by the display.
As soon as you enter, it's easy to see that the only difference from last week is there are less of you to fill the seats around the table. Likely because of how spacious the room is, with so many of your number missing it's starting to feel a little lonely. With a quick glance, you can see the profiles still lining the walls. Their presence serves as a grim reminder of those whose lives have been lost, just in case the absence of their voices wasn't enough.
When everyone settles into their respective seats, The Sage's cold voice seeps in through their pendants.
"It is time, my warriors, to meet the challenge head on. Thus far, your quick wit and perseverance have prevented these trials from meeting an unrighteous end. As you come upon your third tribunal, I can only ponder if this trend will continue.
May you be blessed with only the best of fortune. You will need it."
As soon as the Sage finishes speaking, five images flicker into sight as if brought to life by a projector. Seeing how there's no such device present, it may not be a stretch to consider magic is at work here.
Soldier on, Warriors.

Wexub-- Weeb... he guesses he can see it.]
You really are so strong. I've always admired that about you...
no subject
[Edna shakes her head and smirks.]
...look after the kids for me while I'm gone.
no subject
...I... can't promise anything...
[Not when his world is about to be lost.]
no subject
You're gonna live, you know. It's gonna suck, and you won't be able to forget-- but you're going to live. I'm proof that this isn't how it ends.
[Even in the darkest of hours, he can live through this. And... just because she worries. Because she needs him to keep fighting--]
Who knows... you came back once, right? [She shrugs.] Stop moping and whining and look for a way to bring us all back.
no subject
[...though honestly?]
I'm grateful we were given this chance...
[To just be with her and love her like he should have. Be that proper brother he should have been if it weren't for his curse.
Because... if not for his curse he would have been able to stay with her.
...for the first time in a long time... he curses his very curse.]
no subject
[That's... what she needs to hear most of all. Her greatest fear in accepting the truth that came to light was that he would give up. She needed him to be strong for her right now. That... as long as she has that, she'll be okay no matter what.]
Me too. It meant everything to me.
[--ah.]
Oh right. One more thing.
[Ah-- it's more letters. But they're not addressed to him. The names are... Lailah, Meebo and Zaveid. Well, at least he knows the one.]
If you get out of the castle, I want you to try and find these people. It's not like I owe them an explanation or anything, but I guess I'll try to spare them the mystery.
[Yeah okay she cares whatever!!!]
no subject
[He looks down so his hair obscures his eyes, but he... can't keep his emotions in check anymore as there are tears falling from his eyes and he's shaking.
Hecan'thecan'thecan'thecan't...
...for as strong as he is, he's also weak.]
no subject
I know you'll find a way. Look for an answer. There has to be one.
[And even though it has no power here--]
Promise me.
no subject
[He repeats that same answer. He can't promise because she has no idea how much she's shattered his heart right now.
Edna is his everything and to soon have that possibly taken away from him...
...he can't.]
no subject
[But she smiles wryly as she says it, releasing him only to grab the collar and pull him down enough that she can give him a kiss on the forehead.]
Who am I supposed to count on without you?
no subject
[Edna can probably see his eyes are starting to turn red now as she kisses his forehead. Probably the same red hers were when she cried her eyes out when she killed Eizen...
Not that he knows all this...]
no subject
[She feels bad asking favors, but she'll definitely ask a few to keep an eye on him.]
If you get out of the castle, the people those letters are made out to... they're a bunch of weirdos, but they'll help you.
I'm not going to say goodbye. After all, it's your job to figure out how to bring everyone back to this side.
[Good thing she's going so easy on him......................]
no subject
[He'll move in to give her a kiss on her forehead as if emphasizing that.]
I'll do my best to figure out how to bring you back.
[Honestly? Fuck the rest of them. He just wants to figure out how to bring his precious sister back.]
no subject
They'll help you. They're... allies.
[Friends. Both sets, now. The people she trusts. ]
no subject
[He doesn't have the energy to fight her anymore as his arms start to loosen around her in defeat.]
