Sunday - Thursday

You've lost four in the past week—Machias, Vanitas, Natalia and Edna. Just in time for the fourth week to roll around, for those of you who are superstitious. But it really isn't like you could forget that death is a common occurrence in this castle, whether you believe in legends or not. Some of you might find solace in the chance to recuperate and move on, if you're still up for companionship with your fellow warriors.

Either way, dawn is soon upon the castle and like it or not, you will all have to face whatever comes this week.

Like before the pattern repeats itself, with new areas revealed for you to explore. It may be that something worth discovering lies in wait to be found, or you can simple enjoy the new additions for what they are. Distractions are most likely welcome, regardless of your feelings of the past week.

Chess room

[ Nishitani doesn't know how to play chess. Not even a little. But he steps on the board and gasps when the pieces appear, just like anyone else would.

So he steps off, and watches them disappear. Then steps back. They're there again. On and off, he's having fun in his own stupid way, okay? ]

Shit, this is some weird fuckin' magic!

[ He really is having fun. ]

Sakura tree/Investigation...?

[ As much as Nishitani knows that Hiyono's story is 100% fake, he's still hanging out under the sakura tree... I mean, approaching him is probably a bad idea, we all know who he wants to see. Still, Nishitani seems to be carving something into the wood. That's pretty suspicious, right? ]

What's the kanji fer Teishu-kun again...?

[ He might as well go with katakana at this rate. ]

[She wonders, as she steps into the room and sees her roommate, if Majima had told Nishitani about her little breakdown.

Instinct says no, and she hopes to god she's right. Bad enough one person had seen her so vulnerable; Ros would loathe anyone else hearing about it. But acting tentative would be foolish, because if he doesn't know, he'll realize something is up, so best to just act as if nothing is wrong.

So: she watches Nishitani step on and off the board for a while, and then calls--]

Do you know how to play?

[ Nishitani and Majima may share a lot of things, but their roommate's emotional breakdowns isn't one of them. Even if he had, Nishitani wouldn't say anything. He's not big on emotions himself, see. ]

Nope! Seen it around, but never really bothered learnin'.

[ I mean, he knows what chess is. It just seems very boring. ]

[She comes up to him, but doesn't cross the board, not yet.]

Though perhaps I'll have to learn it. I enjoy chess well enough, in the right time and place. Stop--

[She reaches out, grabbing his arm and stopping him from stepping on and off again. Enough.]

Well, ya got yer king and silver general and a gold general... think these have less pieces, huh?

[ Aw, boo. He does stop, though. He likes Rosalind enough to let her touch him without him wanting to claw her arm off like some kind of feral cat. Instead he holds himself still, a rare state for Nishitani. ]

Ya wanna teach me, Lutece-han?

[ He grins, wide and salacious. Maybe touching him was a bad idea. ]

[Aaaand there goes her hand off his arm, although to be fair, it wasn't as if she was going to hold on for much longer anyway. But rather than give him a look of disgust, Rosalind offers him an arch look.]

That depends. Can you do as you're told?

[ He's just a lech, I wish I could say he's better than that, but he isn't. Her tone just makes him grin wider. ]

Then go put twenty-five feet between us and head to the other side of the board.

[ Nishitani visibly deflates, but he does as he's told, standing on the other side of the board. ]

[ He waves him over. Always happy to see him, of course. ]

I'm tryin' ta see if I can carve Teishu-kun and his crush's name inta the tree.

Yeah! Might as well, huh? He deserves somethin' nice fer all 'is trouble.

[ majima sighs a little wistfully ]

Yeah, he does.

[ Nishitani chuckles. ]

Yer pretty tight with ol' Teishu-kun, ain't ya? It's cute.

[ You guys are soooo similar. ]

A-ah, no! I just talk ta him sometimes.

[Eizen's found his way to the new wing, finally, and sees the chess room. It's not a familiar set up to him, but he's curious anyway, even more so when he sees the chess pieces appear.

He's watching with some amusement as he takes a swig of the bottle of rum he's been carrying around.]

I see-- it detects you and appears.

[Some like Eizen see it as magic-- some may see it as advanced technology.]

[ Ah, Eizen is walking around and stuff. Nice! Nishitani smiles. ]

Yeah, looks like! Pretty fancy, huh? I ain't ever seen anythin' like this.

Neither have I. I wonder what this is...

[Or how it's used. Seems weird to him.]

Think it's supposed ta play some kinda game.

[ He recognizes the pieces, they're just not his game of choice... ]

Ya ever played shogi before?

[He thinks. I need to remember if chess was a thing in ToB... later...]

I heard this is kinda like that.

[ The pieces look familiar, anyway. ]

Dunno how we'd get 'em ta move, though. I can't see the fuckin' board from here.

[He walks around a bit trying to get a good look at everything.]

[ Well, Nishitani will find himself easy to carve into the tree with no hassle. Nothing odd or weird happens, so keep doing what you were doing! ]

[ Well, good because he's carving the equivalent of "Teishu x North 5ever" on this tree.

Is it gonna be there tomorrow, or will the tree fix itself? ]
