Week 6

Sunday - Thursday

Another week of misfortune has passed by and while the end result is that there won't be any issues to anyone's existence being altered for the worst, it doesn't mean anyone's celebrating. If anything, the stressful machinations of the recent trial would require some of you to have someone champion some sort of recuperation amongst you in an attempt to relieve the strain. Whether or not its entirely successful in doing so is up to each individual. After all, there are some of you who are naturally able to endure more than others.

There's not even much time for that before the dawn of the next week is upon the castle. As it comes, everything seems quiet, which is understandable, considering that five lives were lost in the previous week.

Of course, the next best thing to focus on would be what's been newly revealed within the castle. It'll help most of you get your mind off of the current situation to an extent—distractions have a way of making that possible. Presuming, by chance, you do find yourself taking a peek at the sakura tree, you'll notice that the buds have started to finally open up. Is it time for spring at last? If so, you might find yourself wishing that the season would suddenly find itself on hold.

[That is indeed not an answer and she raises an eyebrow. She's not angry, but there's a bit of a "it's gonna take a bit more than a compliment to distract me here" kinda look about her.]

Actually, I recently started hoping for a crime drama starring two intelligent women busting crime in... Ohhh, let's say Tokyo, gradually becoming more and more involved in the criminal underground as their morals - or lack thereof - are tested time and time again!

It sounds strange, I know, but we may be able to reunite with those we've lost. It won't make the hurt go away, but it'd be nice to see it happen, wouldn't it?

I wonder who saved him. If that was the work of the Teishu or the Emperor's own powers.

Can it really be done?

[Her voice is even softer, like if she says it too loudly then the secret is revealed and the magic lost with their chances. In her childish eyes, the consequences lost to her, she can't imagine that a reunion wouldn't make her heart stop aching so much. She can't bear loneliness; if her friends are back, won't that make it better?]

I'd like to see them again. [Even quieter now, like she's afraid to hope too hard; she moves to fidget with the white feather she's tied as a pendant around her neck, and, when she realizes her grip is tightening, fidgets with her dragonstone instead.] I'd like that very much.

[She smiles back at him, though it's a tired one for sure.]

She'd better understand. [...Yes, because that's what you do at a shrine; make vague threats at divinity.]

That many? [She sounds faintly amused, even if it isn't quite laughter.] Will you tell me about those times?

[But—softer, clinging tighter to him:] Thank you, Jan-Jan.

[It's easy to understand why Tiki keeps her voice low. When the Yakuzas told her about this in the infirmary yesterday, she'd also spoken in a tone that was a little too hopeful, and.... well. While hope is something you never let go of, places like these have a tendency to make optimism feel like something that needs to be rationed rather than thrown all over the place.]

Let me tell you something.

[It's not a secret -- not by any stretch of the imagination -- but Misora signals for Tiki to come closer so she can whisper into her ear.]

[Secrets, of course, deserve to be treated with proper reverence, so Tiki goes silent all at once, even clutching her aquamarine pendant tight in her fist and pulling the cord taut downwards as she shuffles closer to Misora. Still quiet, she leans in so Misora can whisper to her.]

. . . well. I'd certainly read it. Though I'm curious: how precisely does it end? Do they develop and maintain their morals or succumb to the criminal underworld?

[Maybe a few minutes? If nothing happens after that, maybe slipping in more paper will help?! maybe if he gets bored enough he'll fill the gap with paper--]

[.. oh no, that's adorable. It's hard not to smile at least a little at that. She kneels on the kitchen floor and whispers into Tiki's ear.]

Nishitani-san told me yesterday that someone called the Emperor hid something in the castle that could bring everyone back. I don't know much more than that, but it's a start, isn't it?

Well, let's see I told you already about kidnapping Ming to avoid the Numaran army killing us. But uh, some of the others aren't too pleasant. Like a whole city being frozen or us narrowly escaping from a place about to explode.

The only monsters we have around are people so you got that right.

[She'll take aim with the crossbow, taking her sweet time with it this time. The bolt goes flying and strikes the target square in the chest area.]

It;s pretty sick, all things considered. We have bombs that can kill hundreds of thousands of people in one go.

You may as well give up now if that's what you're trying to aim for. Extremities are small targets that move around too much and too unpredictably. You'll miss far more often than you'll hit. That's not a risk you take in a life or death situation.

[But her words seem to lack energy behind them. She really is, for better or for worse, tired. Tired of nagging even, except to do it on autopilot.]

Not that I don't understand how you feel, but mercy is a luxury, Ayumu-kun.

[She sighs.]

[ More paper then! A few minutes pass by and...

there's something trying to come out of the very small gap. It's one of those minions you've seen around the castle, looks like you found their nest. The poor thing has paper stuck all over it too now, but one of them looks really old, it doesn't match the paper you just shoved in. ]
