Week 2

Friday's harrowing events are clear in the minds of many—first and foremost, the death of Rika Furude, and of course the reveal and subsequent "sentencing" of Asch the Bloody. It also serves well as a reminder to everyone that the gloves are off, there won't be an easy way out for anyone and it is unlikely that there will be an option to 'wait it out' in the hopes of not participating in this 'game'. Or, as The Sage and The Teishu put it:

The Challenge.

Despite how you felt about the trial, it's likely that some rest would be welcome after all that transpired. Fortunately, some of your fellow warriors have taken it upon themselves to provide a reprieve of sorts, if you'd rather not be alone.

As if the events of the trial are supposed to be nothing but routine, dawns comes once more Sunday morning, punctuated with the sound of the rooster crowing obnoxiously. Any light sleepers hoping for their rest to not be disturbed may find themselves disappointed. Though, if anyone should wish, they may feel free to try to fall back asleep.

But, maybe that time can be better spent wandering. It seems that some places may have mysteriously unveiled themselves. It might do well to check them out. Or not. How anyone chooses to spend their time is ultimately up to them.

[So Sen hecked up and got herself locked up in here. Whoops!

...no, that's a lie. But she does take the stairs to the basement, intending on exploring the new area to the best of her abilities. Of course... she finds that it's rather dirty and gross down there. So.

Her next course of action is to head right back upstairs, change into the ugly green robe instead of her nice kimono, and head back down with some towels filched from the bathhouse and some bowls of water.

Operation: Cleanup is a go.]

evening - kitchen;
[It's been a long day and though her appetite has waned somewhat, what with... Chiaki getting disqualified... a girl's got to eat.

Grilled fish is on today's menu, but for now, she's trying to figure out how much salt she should add for flavor.]

Hmm... I don't want it to be bland, but...

[The man decoded to start heading downstairs when he notices someone ahead of him]

Ah, Senhime - what's with the water?

[Georik questioned, wondering what she exactly found]

[Well! Hello there, Georik. Sen will turn toward him with a smile and thankfully not go tumbling down with the water.]

It's rather... grimy, down there. I thought perhaps it might be prudent to clean it up a bit, lest there be anything hiding among the mess.

[He tries to hide the displeasure of cleaning up the muck that may be lurking downstairs, but he supposes it would not be fair to have someone clean that up all by themselves]

If you give me a moment to get a robe on, I could help you with the higher places.

[The doctor gestures, indicating his height]

Really? I would appreciate it!

[This is why Georik is great. Sen doesn't mind waiting at all; she'll do so patiently while he goes to fetch his robe.]

[He soon returns, dressed in his robe - walking as he rolls up his now braided hair into a loose bun, using a ribbon to tie it back and out of the way]

[When a new section of the building opens up, there's nothing to do but to check things out, right? Besides, there's only so much they can occupy themselves with anyways. So while Mahiro doesn't necessarily expect to be alone in wanting to see the basement floor, finding Sen all decked out in one of those cloaks and equipped with cleaning supplies is. Baffling.

She isn't really? Is she??]

Are you seriously going to spend your time cleaning this place?

It's easy to hide something in a mess, is it not?

[She's absolutely doing this.]

Giving it a thorough cleaning should allow us to see if there is anything here that we may have otherwise overlooked.

Are you sure this isn't just so you have something to do?

[Because she strikes him as a busybody like that.

With that said, it's an idea with merit and it's not like she's forcing him to help or anything either. So really, he honestly doesn't have a reason to complain although he's just incredulous that she'd bother.]

So you think there might be something on the walls or the floor?

Well... perhaps that is part of it.

[She has a hard time not doing something, after all, and she's still feeling vaguely jittery and useless after the last trial.]

There is the possibility that there might be, however small that possibility is. Of course, it is also probable that there isn't... but there is only one way to find out, is there not?

If you wanna put yourself through the trouble, then who am I to stop you, then.

[Not that he's going to offer to help either unless given a good reason to, but you know. Also: is her hair tied back?]

Kind of surprised a princess would want to do something this menial, though.

[Just like a girl's got to eat, so does a man. Jansen is headed in to try and cook something himself when he comes across Sen.]

Start with a small amount. You can add more, but getting rid of too much is not as easy. You could also try adding some garlic or... nevermind just go with the salt.

[He was so about to suggest lemon, but after that trial, well he'd not blame people if they tossed every lemon in the castle into the fire.]

[Sen raises an eyebrow when his voice trails off, but she doesn't press the matter.]

There are certainly a lot of different ways to cook fish.

I've got a lot to learn... but plenty of people to learn from, it seems. Thank you for the advice.

Definitely, but that's part of the fun. Try different stuff and see what you like. Just don't go dumping the whole container or anything.

I think that would be too much salt even for me.

[Sen likes flavor as much as the next girl, but... yikes.]

What are some of your dishes? If you don't mind my asking...

Really basic stuff honestly. Never had the money to be baking sweets like Ayumu does. I'd say probably the most fun thing to work with is rice. There's just so many ways to cook it that you can have it every day and make a different meal.

[And he sounds like he speaks from experience. Oh it sucks to be poor enough that he's had to steal to have food to eat at times.]

[ Rhoda's just on her road to finally, finally explore the new areas and she has to say, she didn't really expect to see someone cleaning in this of all places. Least of all Senhime, all dainty and noble as she looks. ]

Uhm... are you planning to use this space for something later?

No, not particularly. Though it would be nice if we could lock certain people down here to prevent them from killing...

[Hmmmm. Maybe they should look into it.]

But it's so grimy, I can't help but think it might be better to clean it up a bit. You never know what might be hiding among the mess.

Hmh... but we can't actually use it, can we? Not as anything but an execution cell of our own. The rules prevent us from sleeping outside the rooms so whomever we'd lock in, they...

[ We've all seen what happened to poor Chiaki... ]

It forbids us from sleeping outside of our rooms, not from being outside overnight. So long as they didn't fall asleep...

[Sen frowns.]

...no, you're right. That's far too cruel.

It might serve to hold someone back during the day, at least?

[ She looks over the rooms, shivering a little. The idea of locking anyone in here is less than pleasant, but of course it would never happen to good people... ]

Well, think of it this way. [ hi. he waves at her from the doorway. ] If you add too much of something, you can't really take it out. Salt. Pepper. Works the same way.

That's certainly true... I wonder, did the first chefs learn the same way? It seems awfully tedious, adding small amounts at a time...

Who knows, but I'd assume they eventually decided on an amount they like. Then they'd just start with that amount each time or something. What do you usually like, Senhime-san?

Hmm... fairly salty, but not overpoweringly so. Just enough for flavor.

[She likes balance.]
