Week 6

Sunday - Thursday

Another week of misfortune has passed by and while the end result is that there won't be any issues to anyone's existence being altered for the worst, it doesn't mean anyone's celebrating. If anything, the stressful machinations of the recent trial would require some of you to have someone champion some sort of recuperation amongst you in an attempt to relieve the strain. Whether or not its entirely successful in doing so is up to each individual. After all, there are some of you who are naturally able to endure more than others.

There's not even much time for that before the dawn of the next week is upon the castle. As it comes, everything seems quiet, which is understandable, considering that five lives were lost in the previous week.

Of course, the next best thing to focus on would be what's been newly revealed within the castle. It'll help most of you get your mind off of the current situation to an extent—distractions have a way of making that possible. Presuming, by chance, you do find yourself taking a peek at the sakura tree, you'll notice that the buds have started to finally open up. Is it time for spring at last? If so, you might find yourself wishing that the season would suddenly find itself on hold.

[Art Room]

[So after the meeting Jansen heads to the art room. Not because he's in a mood to paint, but because it will have what he needs for what he's planning.

Someone coming in may catch him making very crudely painted images of the Sage and an asshole with huge eyebrows. On the second one, the eyebrows are definitely very prominent, but otherwise it's pretty poorly done but he's no artist.]

[Training Ground]

[So now that he's got some lovely targets, he's set up something to try again with that crossbow he grabbed on Sunday. He's not a great shot, but he's at least getting better at hitting the target. If someone happens by here they'll see some bolts and holes all over the place on his poorly done paintings.]

That seems cathartic.

[Must be kind of relaxing, yes? At least it seems you have decent aim, Jansen!]

[True, he's gotten good enough to at least hit the targets, even if it's like feet, arms, head, crotch, etc.]

Wanna try you hand at hitting the Sage?

[He offers Kizakura the crossbow and it's got a bolt ready to go.]

Of course! I still need to learn to shoot one of these things.

[He has a crossbow in his room now, but it's too much of a hassle to go all the way back to bring it, so yeah, better take this crossbow!

Kizakura takes aim, breathing carefully, and fires. The bolt hits just beside the head]

Damn. I'm still not used to crossbows.

Neither am I. I can aim magic at moving targets, but it's way different than something that has weight to it that I have to account for. But then who cares where we hit the Sage?

I think there'd only be one chance to do it, so it does matter. You never know what kind of skills Sage-san has.

If we'd only have one hit then I'm not going to be much help without what I'm best at. This is more a diversion than anything else, but I do prefer to attack from range.

What are you good with?

Magic. More like the fireball sort of thing than the shields and stuff, though I can heal small wounds. Or could if the Sage actually would let us have our powers.

[Elliot's taken to doodling in his spare time every now and again, so he's just wandering in when he catches a glimpse of what Jansen's up to.

He stands behind him for a moment, briefly studying, before he can't help but just laugh.]

What are these?

Thought I'd try to learn how to shoot a crossbow and realized I suck at it. Thought I'd give myself some encouragement to hit my target.

[And thus the Sage and Gongora. It's obvious he didn't try at all beyond making them recognizable enough so maybe part of the point was also to make bad art.]

[Oh! That earns another little bout of laughter.]

Oh, so it's... let's see. The Sage and... um. Eyebrows? [Elliot vaguely recalls Jansen having a Thing against someone with eyebrows, but that's about as far as it goes.]

Yeah. I'm sure you heard in the Great Hall why I have a beef against him especially. Uh, sorry I didn't say anything about that sooner, but I figured it's in the past and doesn't matter here.

[divertimento]

[Elliot holds up his hands to dismiss the thought.]

No worries. If what the Sage is trying to hold over us this week is any indication, we've all got our demons.

And you're right. The past is the past. I'm not about to judge you for that.

I'm glad. Thought some might think badly of me turning on him, but how could I keep working for a guy who ruined the lives of others once I knew? Made far more sense to join those people and work towards the common goal of stopping his plans.

No, I understand that.

[He sounds a little distant at that, gaze shifting elsewhere as he bites at his bottom lip.]

...Kinda wish that were even an option back home.

[Because while he doesn't know how he feels about Osborne, politically, he knows enough about the damage the man's done to people he loves to want to see something done about it. But Osborne's power is such that even Rean's had to bend a knee, and Elliot barely knows what he could possibly do.]

But totally can't spoil me!

So figure something else out then. What are you even going to have to deal with when you get home?

[Rosalind watches him at it for a while-- not only to get a good idea of what people are drawn to what weapon, but very simply because it's something to watch. When he seems ready to take a break, though, she calls out:]

The Sage I recognize, though your composition needs some work. But the other?

The one I used to work for. He's an immortal named Gongora, though I much prefer to call him Lord Eyebrows. [In his badly painted portrait, the eyebrows are large and distinctive so it's pretty evident where that nickname comes from.] And I don't know, I think the lack of composition suits them.

[She quirks an eyebrow for that nickname.]

Not particularly subtle, but to the point.

Wouldn't you prefer to shoot something more realistic?

[She's not actually arguing because she truly believes in the point. She just likes to argue.]

Nah. I'm no killer or soldier even, just venting frustrations. I'm sure a few people didn't like hearing that I used to be a spy.

There are worse things to be, frankly. We've two Yakuza here, I don't think spy outranks that.

Don't know what a Yakuza is to be quite honest so I can't really be bothered by that. To some a spy is the worst sort of person and it was reason enough for all of us to be given a death sentence in Numara.

Why engage in it, then, if your society despises it so much?

I was assigned to spy on people, not for a nation like I was blamed for. My assignment pertained to keeping an eye on two immortals. What I didn't know was that he planted some magic on me that also led to me spying on Numara and that was what nearly got us killed.
