Week 6

Sunday - Thursday

Another week of misfortune has passed by and while the end result is that there won't be any issues to anyone's existence being altered for the worst, it doesn't mean anyone's celebrating. If anything, the stressful machinations of the recent trial would require some of you to have someone champion some sort of recuperation amongst you in an attempt to relieve the strain. Whether or not its entirely successful in doing so is up to each individual. After all, there are some of you who are naturally able to endure more than others.

There's not even much time for that before the dawn of the next week is upon the castle. As it comes, everything seems quiet, which is understandable, considering that five lives were lost in the previous week.

Of course, the next best thing to focus on would be what's been newly revealed within the castle. It'll help most of you get your mind off of the current situation to an extent—distractions have a way of making that possible. Presuming, by chance, you do find yourself taking a peek at the sakura tree, you'll notice that the buds have started to finally open up. Is it time for spring at last? If so, you might find yourself wishing that the season would suddenly find itself on hold.

I also wonder if the specific stones have their own meanings aside from their color? For example, Opals are considered bad luck and Sapphires are said to ward off liars, we have a mixture of precious and semi-precious stones in our pendants.

The color seems to be the most important part, but there might be a reason to pick say a Ruby over a Garnet, and a Malachite over Emerald.

It was pretty long overdue. I'm surprised it only sank in last week.

[Stated less like a criticism and more like an offhand comment. She's really not that interested in chastising him over his conduct. Crossbow reloaded, she takes aim at the target herself.

This time, she herself has better luck. The bolt pierces roughly the thigh would've been on a real person. She breathes out and lowers the crossbow, remaining silent for a moment longer before addressing the rest of what Ayumu said.]

It's way different because magic energy doesn't have weight to account for. Instead it was more about being able to predict how the enemy would move and keep your mind on the spell even while being attacked. Though Kaim and Seth would usually handle trying to make sure us casters were left alone.

[She contemplates this in silence for a moment. She recalls Kizakura's frustrated outburst from a couple weeks ago about being an ordinary man from an ordinary world and to this day she hasn't heard anything that comes close to beating that in terms of its relatability. But she's at least come to just take all of it in stride.]

I suppose anything could be easy if you knew how to go about it.

What if we think about it in terms of personality? This is just based on what I know of some people, but...

[She begins scribbling down notes as she speaks, both written and spoken word clearly the result of thinking aloud.]

Onyx - devotion. Eizen-san and Hei-san were devoted to Edna-san and Yin-san. A binding kind of devotion, that could be destructive...? Or maybe it's just the serious, grumpy people?

Diamond - free spirits, people who don't see any reason to abide by the rules set by others.

Ruby - Steadfast. Determination. People who will follow their chosen path and morals until the very end.

Yellow Topaz - Loyalty? Those who are loyal and duty-bound to their people, but not necessarily those outside of that group.

Aquamarine - the healing, caretaker types. They're softer than yellow topaz, though... Maybe a focus on emotional well-being would be more accurate?

And lastly... Malachite. Those who find themselves being responsible for others, whether they mean to or not.

Does any of that sound accurate?

Sometimes you have to see what's at risk to accept the value of something.

His aim is true. The shot is about the equivalent of a gutshot when it hits, though an inch or two off. Didn't he say he'd never used a real weapon before?]

And maybe you're right, someone probably would have died. That's still little comfort when you consider three people are dead so some of us could survive the week.

[Mm, probably best not to ask. Those two statements, combined with what they've both told her, are enough to paint a rough picture, and she won't ruin things by asking for the gritty details.

I suppose each way-- tightly wound and not, I mean-- has advantages. It's easier to command obedience, if not respect, the way I do things . . . but yours certainly sounds more fun.

Magic sounds much more convenient in that sense, though I'm sure there must've been different kinds of downsides to it. Using weapons like guns and crossbows aren't tiring at least.

Yeah, that's something to consider too but I don't know enough about gemstone meanings to interpret these. So unless someone else here can speak up about it, we're stuck with the books in the library.

Of all the weeks people ought to have held back.. this one was it. Even if the Sage was capable of carrying out the threat, he wouldn't have eliminated five warriors who were in his game.

Exactly. Though I wouldn't put it past this castle to be deliberately misleading either.

I know a little, my sister's into all sorts of fortune-telling things, I suppose that's something all girls her age do, but nothing comprehensive.

Mm, I do intend to scour the castle a second time this week. Though if it's the case that there are specific prerequisites that need to be met beforehand, it might just be speedier to ask the Sage or Teishu directly.

Both of them are likely aware that I have this key and the fact that neither have taken it away would suggest to me that it can't be of great importance to them.
